In this post, we'll take a closer look at the latest statistics and trends in Taiwan's mobile communication and 5G market.

Chunghwa Telecom, the largest telecom company in Taiwan, leads the market in terms of total mobile users, with a user base of 1.107 million. The company also boasts the highest market share for both 4G and 5G users, with 36.8% and 36.5%, respectively. Meanwhile, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone rank second and third in terms of total mobile users, with 0.719 million and 0.716 million, respectively. Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and a potential merger of major telecom companies in the works, the mobile communication industry in Taiwan continues to show steady growth. The adoption of 5G technology has been a major driving force behind this growth, as more and more consumers switch to 5G plans to take advantage of faster speeds and greater connectivity.

The adoption of 5G technology has also had a positive impact on average revenue per user (ARPU) for telecom companies, as 5G plans tend to have higher monthly fees than their 4G counterparts. For example, in March 2023, Chunghwa Telecom's mobile ARPU increased by 5.3% compared to the same period last year, driving the company's overall mobile service revenue to grow by 8.1% year-over-year.

Other major telecom companies in Taiwan have also seen growth in ARPU and mobile service revenue in recent months. Taiwan Mobile's ARPU for its smart monthly plan has been growing continuously for the past 22 months, with a 3.5% year-over-year.
