Taiwan Ministry of Digital Affairs Offers AI Technology Subsidies of up to NT$20 Million per Project

The Ministry of Digital Affairs(MODA) in Taiwan has launched a new subsidy program to promote the development of AI technology and innovative applications. In order to assist industries in digital transformation and enhance business operational efficiency, potential teams will be guided and funded to develop AI applications and other cutting-edge technology. The new AI technology solutions not only benefit domestic industries but also have the potential to expand into international markets.

Previous successful AI application developments by startup companies include AI pathology automatic diagnostic systems, which apply AI technology to the diagnosis of pathologies such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma, stomach cancer, and lung cancer, and have been successfully introduced into large medical centers. Additionally, the AIoT digital management system in the manufacturing industry, such as the AI virtual foreman, has been successfully introduced into the factory field, remotely monitoring factory data and predicting equipment anomalies.

This year, the Administration for Digital Industries in MODA has expanded its AI subsidy program to include not only startups but also AI potential enterprises. The program is divided into three areas: intelligent business, intelligent manufacturing, and intelligent healthcare, and encourages companies to develop mature AI products, systems, services, or technologies with viable application and operational models that address government or industry requirements and pain points, such as using AI to prevent fraud in e-commerce and retail, fintech, and cybersecurity.

The Administration for Digital Industries in MODA has announced that applications will be accepted until May 31, 2023. Each project can receive up to NT$20 million, with a subsidy ratio not exceeding 50% of the total project cost. The remaining amount must be self-funded by the applying company. The project timeline is limited to a maximum of two years.
